Does Speaker Pelosi suffer from Amnesia or Madness?

Ahhhh....remember when Dissent was patriotic. Now it's racist.

Look:

Aren't you scared? Well, she must have amnesia because look at what she said in 2006 to Code Pink:

So, Speaker Pelosi endorsed the tactics of Code Pink in 2006 and hates the same tactics in 2009. In fact, according to The Hill newspaper, she cried:

A usually steely House Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Thursday began to tear up when, in responding to a question about the tone of the national debate, she recalled the politically charged violence that tore through her hometown of San Francisco in the late 1970s.

At her weekly news conference, Pelosi (D-Calif.) was asked if she was concerned about whether the debate over health care and the role of the federal government — much of it wrapped in escalating anti-government rhetoric — could lead to acts of violence.

“I think we all have to take responsibility for our actions and our words. We are a free country and this balance between freedom and safety is one that we have to carefully balance,” Pelosi began. But she then reached back some 30 years, to the very beginning of her career in politics, to recall how heated rhetoric led to the assassinations of San Francisco Mayor George Moscone and Supervisor Harvey Milk by a disgruntled former supervisor on Nov. 27, 1978.

“I have concerns about some of the language that is being used because I saw … I saw this myself in the late '70s in San Francisco,” Pelosi said, choking up and with tears forming in her eyes. “This kind of rhetoric is just, is really frightening and it created a climate in which we, violence took place and … I wish that we would all, again, curb our enthusiasm in some of the statements that are made.”

A few weeks ago, this crying Speaker called protesters at Town halls "UnAmerican," and "Nazi's,"

She endorsed the tactics that are being used by the Right today that were being used by the left during the last Administration. Remember this? (I expect you to click the link and watch the videos before you comment) Again Speaker Pelosi and Thom Hartmann endorsed any or all attacks on the Bush Administration.

But Speaker Pelosi might be mad too. Look at all the symptoms of Dissocial personality disorder:

**Callous unconcern for the feelings of others and lack of the capacity for empathy.
**Gross and persistent attitude of irresponsibility and disregard for social norms, rules, and obligations.
**Incapacity to maintain enduring relationships, though having no difficulty in establishing them.

**Very low tolerance to frustration and a low threshold for discharge of aggression, including violence.
**Incapacity to experience guilt and to profit from experience, particularly punishment.
**
Marked proneness to blame others or to offer plausible rationalizations for the behavior bringing the subject into conflict.
**Persistent irritability
.

Yes, that's Pelosi!

How did civility die in Politics? Both Pelosi and Hartmann should look in the mirror. I read the comic, John Constantine, an anti-hero who deals with Angels and Demons. Throughout the history of the character, it's always mentioned that it is easier to call up a demon then rid yourself (or your neighborhood) of one.

The Left has called up the Demon, Hatred. They need Emmanuel Goldstein's and Two Minute Hate's. They have 9/11 and trig trutherism. And they never cleaned their own house!

The tipping point for all of us on the Right was how Gov. Palin was attacked from all quarters and no Leftie stood up said "Enough," She stepped down rather be in the line of fire that would interfere with Governing Alaska. That was the day the Right got Angry. I am still angry.

Because the Left believes in the righteousness of their cause, any or all attacks on Conservatives or Republicans is allowed. However, the blow back from the attacks on Palin, the Left has yet to understand. You cannot call up a Demon and expect it to go away when you are done. They have their own timetable.

This has nothing to do with Race. Heck, I hang around Conservative and Republican circles in the Blogosphere and real life. Ive never met people who gave a damn more about other people then us folks on the Right. Re-read my Plague Year and tell me I'm wrong.

Only the Left can put the Demon away. How? Every Conservative and Republican you meet, start with the words, "I'm sorry I hated Bush and Palin,"

President Obama and Speaker Pelosi, LEAD BY EXAMPLE.

I watched Pelosi's statement yesterday and saw and heard nothing whatsoever that discussed or referred to race at all. I saw a person who had experienced the effects of political asassination expressing her fear that violence might result from this escalating anger and expressed hatred. This seems entirely rational to me.

Political theater (e.g., Code Pink, Act-Up, or Abbie Hoffman trying to levitate the Pentagon) from the left or right is a far cry from statements or threats of physical violence -- asassination has a long and painful entry in our national history books. As do rampaging mobs, lynchings and riots. Does anyone of good will on either side want us to go there again?

If not, Pelosi's statement yesterday could be fairly seen as call to return to reasoned arguments, to detente if you will, for all involved.

  2. Octobia,

Welcome back! Again if you take Speaker Pelosi's statement alone, then yes you are right.

I took the statement and added to the mix, Maureen Dowd's article about what the racism she heard in her head about Rep. Wilson (full disclosure, I know his Chief of Staff) and Former President Carter's statement that "All who oppose President Obama is racist,"

Then, enter stage Left, Pelosi's fear.

As I mentioned in the post, you don't spend 8 years attacking, switch parties in the Executive Branch and THEN call "Time out,"

We on the Right see as if saying: Oh! We used to have 3 strikes for the batter during the top of the inning and then when the team changes, say "Oh it takes 6 strikes to go out,"

And with a compliannt press (the last time the NYT endorsed a Republican in Nov. was to re-elect Eisenhower, before that to re-elect TEDDY Roosevelt), where does the Right go to argue?

As I said in the piece, you can't spend 8 years hating on someone and expect the people who support (and see the same attacks on a Moderate republican, John McCain, take the same tinge. Even worse, during a Governing year, two Bloggers Dan Riehl and RS McCain discovered funds going to Bloggers in Alaska to continually harass Palin AFTER 1/20/09) to turn a blind eye.

Pelosi's context is what brings out the connotation. Civility in a two party system usually has to start with the winner.

  3. I think Pelosi suffers from both madness and amnesia, and I think it is reprehensible. This is also true of a lot of other politicians. I saw that senator from La on TV today, the one who had been with a prostitute talking about ACORN and the presidential Czars and how concerned he is about these things. A man who himself was wrapped up in prostitution. I mean REALLY....what is the world coming to?
