Jason wrote a post asking, "Why is the Right opposed to Global warming/Climate Change/whatever they call it tomorrow?"

Here are a few reasons why:

1) The same people who yell "Climate Change/Global warming" also yelled (during my lifetime), "Overpopulation!" (which begat China's One Child Policy), yelled "Global Cooling!" (now defunct due to Global warming), "Recycle!" (now made moot by the idea of Plastic or paper bags) and "Acid rain!" (Last time I saw Acid rain was in a William Gibson short story, and that was the first time as well).

If your going to say "The Sky is falling!" every decade, choose an Apocalyptic scenario and stick with it. When the Apocalypse does not happen (as it did with all of the above), it makes it hard to believe in it the next time.

2) Liberals who want us to believe in their cause, don't make the effort to support Conservative Causes. The oldest law on the Political books -- I help you, you help me. I bet if the Democrats had stayed their tongue on Iraq, Conservatives would have joined the Global warming cause. No support for our Windmills, why should we fight for yours?

3) Forgetting the history of Galileo. During Galileo's time, the establishment (i.e. the Church) believed in Copernican theory and called everyone who didn't follow the Theory was called "Heretic" or burned at the Stake. Look at this Blog Post by Dr. Heidi Cullen of the Weather Channel. The New establishment (i.e. Hollywood, the Media, Academia) act as though Copernicus' views are still relevant.
Mankind has only been Industrially active for 200 years. Did the dinosaurs go extinct because they built factories? Those debating the issue of Global warming are playing the role of Galileo, not the Global warming supporters.

4) We are between Ice Ages. The Earth has frozen more then it has melted. And to believe that Global warming will destroy humanity means that you don't believe in Evolution. Man has adapted to Cold and Heat. If you believe in Global warming, do you believe that Man cannot evolve?

And remember, Happy Earth day! (created by a murderer who ran to France).

  1. JSF, I've been kicking around how to respond to this, and I really don't know why I should bother since your answer to this is the same disappointing answer you have to everything else. You'd love to care about a problem that effects the whole world, but it's those damn liberals who don't treat your side the way you want them to (and by that you mean giving you a free pass to do whatever the hell you want without any accountability) that prevents you from thinking about the greater good beyond your political institution. I think I would have been less disappointed had you said that it's because you really hate Al Gore. I can understand spite. Nobody wins these petty and stupid political games, but the general public always tends to lose.

  2. Jason,

Vice President Al Gore and the Global warming supporters expect Conservatives and Republicans to abandon their ideals for a questionable theory.

Republicans asked Democrats for the same return on Investment on the Iraq war (i.e. Wilsonianism stops Terrorism).

If each side gives towards each others causes, surprise! The world goes around easier.

It might not be pretty, but that is how policy seems to work. If Global warming is that important an issue, what are the Dems willing to give up for Conservative support?

  3. JSF, protecting the earth is not a liberal cause. It is a human cause. Conservatives have the root of conservation right in their name. You just make excuses.

  4. Jason,

Liberating people in the world is in a "Liberal" ideal, but I don't see anyone from Air America or Huffington Post or Kos standing up for the "Concert of Democracies,"

When Al Gore was made head of the GW movement, it immediately excluded Conservatives.

I lived in NYC, DC, and LA and one thing I learned: Nothing is done for altrustic reasons. It might be cited, but there is always a trade off.

When the 99th Congress took "The Bloody 8th" they created the rise of Speaker Gingrinch. I haven't heard any apologies since then.

If the Earth is a non-partisan issue, why put an Anti-Bush guy at the top? If you want Consrvative support on this new theory (see reason one above), there has to be a concession.

  5. JSF, so now it's both out of spite and out of silly partisanship that you don't care about the planet? You're all over the map on this one without a single reasonable point.

Welcome to the Valley! Please comment about the post and keep to the subject.

There is only one person (JSF) keeping track of comments, so as long as what you write is civil and close to the purpose of the post, you will see it.

Keep this in mind: Politics should not be Personal; then you have a place here.

Write! History will remember your words!
